What does an IPX rating mean?Updated 11 hours ago
An IPX rating describes a product’s protection against water under specified test conditions.
The X means that no protection rating against dust or solid particles is specified. It does not mean that the product has no dust protection, but the IPX rating alone does not document it.
Water protection levels
IPX3: Protection against water spray at angles up to 60° on either side of vertical.
IPX4: Protection against water splashes from any direction.
IPX5: Protection against water jets from any direction.
IPX6: Protection against powerful water jets from any direction.
IPX7: Protection against temporary immersion under specified test conditions, commonly described as up to 1 metre in fresh water for 30 minutes.
These descriptions refer to controlled tests, not unrestricted everyday use.
What rating does my product have?
Check your exact model’s approved specifications or manual. Ratings can differ between products, versions and individual components.
Do not assume that all Kreafunk products have the same protection.
Does this mean my product is waterproof or weatherproof?
An IPX rating does not mean unlimited protection against water or all weather conditions.
IPX3–IPX6 do not establish protection against immersion. IPX7 alone does not establish protection against the water-jet tests for IPX5 or IPX6.
Do not assume that the rating covers sweat, salt water, swimming pools, hot water or extreme temperatures. Follow the specific product’s manual and usage restrictions.
